Eyebrow-grooming

  1. Trim overgrown hairs, which extend beyond the browline with eyebrow scissors, whereas stray hairs below the brow should be plucked.
  2. Everyone is born with a brow shape that works naturally with her face. If you have a round face, arching your eyebrows slightly will help to elongate your face. Long faces can have slightly less of an arch. But eyebrow shaping is an art, so you should always see a professional make-up artist to get the initial shape.
  3. Always pluck from the bottom upwards, and do so row by row. Plucking from the top will lower your arch and hurt its natural shape.
  4. To avoid creating sparse spots, never overpluck in one area.
  5. If your brows are sparse, use an eyebrow pencil, followed by eyebrow powder to create a fuller look.
  6. First, draw feathery strokes with the eyebrow pencil, then brush over with a powder formula for a more natural definition.
  7. As a rule, your brow colour should be two shades lighter than your hair colour. Asians with naturally dark hair should avoid going darker than a deep brown tone or mahogany. If you dye your hair a much lighter shade, either dye your brows lighter, or use a lighter shade of brow powder like a red brown or taupe shade. If your brows are too dark, they will look unnatural, and if too light, you will look weird.
  8. For easier application and longer-lasting brows, dust your eyebrow area with face powder first. This absorbs the natural oil on your skin and helps your make-up to set.
  9. Eyebrow brushes should be angled and precise. Never apply brow powder on your brows directly from the container as it will look too heavy. Instead, tap a powder-filled eyebrow brush onto the back of your hand or a piece of tissue, and work it back onto the brush. This helps the colour blend nicely.
  10. Your eyebrow’s arch is naturally the darkest part of your brow. Therefore, you should fill in this area first. Then use the remaining powder to fill in the rest, going from the start of your brow.
  11. Get your brows reshaped by a professional at least every two months. It makes at-home maintenance a lot easier.
  12. To keep your brows looking good, look for stray hairs to pluck every three days and trim overgrown hairs once a week.
  13. Your skin grows faster than your hair, so to avoid in-grown hairs, use a gentle facial scrub over the area once or twice a week, avoiding the eye area.
  14. Whether you’re born without much brow hair or have over-plucked in the past, try not to resort to eyebrow tattooing, which looks unnatural and can change colour. Instead, learn how to fill in your brows with powder or pencil.
  15. Well-maintained brows should only take two minutes to groom and last the whole day. To remove, apply an eye make-up remover onto a cotton pad, press and hold onto the eyebrow for five seconds, then swipe off.
